PROCESS FOR PREPARING ARYL AMINES

A process for preparing an unsymmetrical, substituted ditertiary amine comprising reacting a di-secondary amine having the general formula R2-HN-R1-NH-R3 wherein R1 is a polyarylidene group, a polyarylether group or a polyaryl sulfide group each group containing from 2 to 6 aryl groups and R2 and R3 are each aryl groups having substituted thereon alkyl radicals having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms, phenyl radicals or alkaryl radicals, with an aryl iodide in the presence of an alkali metal base and a copper catalyst under an inert atmosphere at a temperature between about 100.degree.C and about 225.degree.C for a time sufficient to form the unsymmetrical, substituted di-tertiary amine.
