POLYVINYL ALCOHOL COPOLYMER RESIN COMPOSITION AND MULTI-LAYER LAMINATE

A resin composition comprising: (A) a polyvinyl alcohol copolymer resin having an ethylene content of 1 to 50% by weight, as obtained by emulsion polymerization of a vinyl acetate monomer and an ethylene monomer in the state that polyvinyl alcohol is present in an amount of at least 10% by weight based on the total weight of polyvinyl alcohol and the vinyl acetate monomer; and (B) any one of a polyvinyl alcohol resin, a polyamide resin and a saponified product of olefin-vinyl acetate copolymer is disclosed. The resin composition of the present invention is excellent in melt molding processability, melt extrusion processability, gas barrier properties, mechanical strength and so forth. A multi-layer laminate having at least one layer of the polyvinyl alcohol copolymer resin described as the component (A) wherein at least one thermoplastic resin layer is laminated and the polyvinyl alcohol copolymer resin layer is a heat seal layer, and a multi-layer laminate having at least one layer of the polyvinyl alcohol copolymer resin wherein adjacent to the resin layer, a polyolefinic thermoplastic resin layer having a thickness of 2 .mu.m to 30 .mu.m, or an adhesive layer and the polyolefinic thermoplastic resin layer, is (are) laminated, and the polyolefinic thermoplastic resin layer is a heat seal layer. These multi-layer laminates are excellent particularly in flavor barrier properties and are suitable for packaging of food.
