<p>Constructive occlusion, alone or in combination with other techniques, enables tailoring of the illumination distribution or sensitivity profile of a radiant energy transducer system (60) for specific applications. Constructive occlusion utilizes a mask (24) sized and positioned to occlude an active optical area (LS), such as an aperture (22) of a diffusely reflective cavity (16), to provide a tailored performance characteristic. To further tailor the performance, a non-diffuse reflective shoulder (32) is used around a peripheral section of the mask and cavity.</p> |
