摘要 PURPOSE: A car navigation system using a path coupling hypothesis and a road matching method using the same are provided to match position information from a cross section with road correctly and to enable selection of several possible roads so as to determine path quickly on the cross section. CONSTITUTION: The device includes a data interface, a data processor, a path coupling probability calculator, a hypothesis verifier and a road matcher. The data interface interfaces the GPS angle velocity information from a GPS receiver with the angle and velocity information from the angle and velocity sensors. The data processor calculates position information based on each of angle and velocity information from the data interface as well as predetermined road information, compensates the error component in the position information, estimates the cross section based on the compensated position information and generates hypothesis on each direction of the estimated cross section. The path coupling probability calculator calculates specific path coupling probability based on the hypothesis from the data processor and each of angle and velocity information from the data interface. The hypothesis verifier verifies the hypothesis sequentially based on the estimated coupling probability to select most probable path. The road matcher determines the optimal path and position of the car based on the output signal of the path coupling probability calculator and the output of the hypothesis verifier.
