The invention relates to a method for regulating the tracking of a scanning device (1), especially a writing/reading head of a drive (5); and to a drive (5) for storage media (10) with a scanning device (1), said drive enabling an improved regulation of the positioning of the scanning device (1). A measured position of the scanning device (1) in relation to a storage medium (10) that is introduced into the drive (5) is compared with a predetermined position. At least one actuator (15) is controlled according to the result of this comparison, in such a way that the scanning device (1) is moved in the direction of the predetermined position. The accelerations that affect the scanning device (1) are measured in a direction of movement of the at least one actuator. A correction signal is derived from the measured accelerations and supplied to the at least one actuator (15), the actuator (15) being controlled through the correction signal in such a way as to counteract the accelerations affecting the scanning device (1).
