PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shaft sealing apparatus which smooth turning of a rotating shaft is maintained even if the radial heat expansion is caused on the sealing shaft while running due to temperature change. SOLUTION: In the shaft sealing apparatus, a magnetic sealing device 7 having a heater 9 is installed on a rotating shaft 3 which is located in the partition separating a first area R1 and a second area R2 and can allow the smooth turning of the rotating shaft 3 sealing the partition between the first area R1 and second area R2. If the shaft 3 is expanded toward radial direction by heating due to the temperature rise, the thermo sensor 19 detects the temperature rise and transmits a signal to a temperature controller 12. The controller 12 can control heat generation of the heater 9 in accordance with temperature sensed by thermometer 19. It is characterized in that a constant clearance between the rotating shaft 3 and sealing portion of the device 7 is maintained by heating sealing portion of the device 7 in accordance with radial expansion of the shaft 3. |
