PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a resin composition having excellent strength, water resistance and gas barrier properties by dispersing an inorganic laminar compound into a hydrophobic resin in a nanometer order. SOLUTION: The method for producing a hydrophobic resin composition comprises a process for dispersing a water-swellable inorganic phyllosilicate and a hydrophobic resin into an aqueous solvent to give an aqueous dispersion, mixing the aqueous dispersion with an organic onium salt and agglomerating the hydrophobic resin into which the water-swellable inorganic phyllosilicate is dispersed.
