PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an epoxy adhesive that is excellent in preservation stability as well as in electric insulation and flexibility (pliability), and to provide a cover lay, a prepreg, a metal-clad laminated plate and a printed wiring board that are flexible using the epoxy adhesive. SOLUTION: The epoxy adhesive comprises as its constituents a base resin, comprised of an epoxy resin and a curing agent, and a carboxylated rubber, where the curing agent comprises a cresol-type phenol novolak resin. The number of hydroxy groups of the cresol-type phenol novolak resin is caused to be at least 0.5 but at most 1.2 when the number of the epoxy groups of the epoxy resin is let to be 1 and the compounding ratio of the carboxylated rubber to the total amount of the constituents is caused to be at least 20 but at most 40 mass%.
