PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively transfer a laminated layer of a thermal transfer sheet and to give an excellent surface glossiness together with excellent runnability and blocking resistance by incorporating a predetermined compound in a copolymer contained in a dye receptive layer and blending the compound at a predetermined ratio. SOLUTION: A sheet-like base material 1 and a dye receptive layer 2 for receiving a dye on the material 1 are provided to form the sheet to be thermally transferred. The layer 2 contains a copolymer of a compound represented by the formula (wherein R is H or CH3) and another monomer, and a ratio of the compound represented by the formula I in the copolymer is 5 to 25 wt.%. As an embodiment of the another monomer, a phenoxypolyethyleneglycol- methacrylate, methylmethacrylate or the like is used. The dye from the thermal transfer sheet is migrated to the layer 2 by selective application of a heat quantity by a thermal head to form an image.
