<p>A method for preventing the combustion of molten metal, and casting apparatus, realizing low GWP100, prolongation of kindling time of molten metal after opening of the lid of holding furnace, etc. and application to a cold chamber system casting. There is provided a method for preventing the combustion of molten metal, comprising, when a molten magnesium alloy is held in any of discharge exits of molten metal feeding machine, holding furnace and melting furnace as molten magnesium alloy holding means, and sluices and float portions for slab, billet, etc., and strip cast molten metal feeding unit, and ingot cases, etc., feeding overthe surface of the molten metal a cover gas composed of a carrier gas mixed with any one of anticombustion gases selected from among HFC-245fa, OHFC-1234ze and CF3I so as to prevent the combustion of the molten metal, wherein the cover gas is obtained by mixing 0.1 to 0.4 vol% of the anticombustion gas with the carrier gas, and wherein the cover gas is fed in a rate of 20 to 60 l/min over m2 of the surface of the molten metal.</p> |
