PURPOSE:To obtain a titled coupler of a cylindrical shape, which is same as a conventional plane waveguide in its efficiency, and can be manufactured easily, by constituting it so that a core part of a coupler body and a core of each fiber in a fiber fixed part are in a corresponding position relation. CONSTITUTION:A titled coupler is constituted of a coupler body 10 and a pair of fiber fixed parts 20. The coupler body 10 consists of cylindrical glass of 3- layered structure, and its center part is a cylindrical inside clad part 12 and consists of quartz glass whose refractive index is low. Its outside is a core part 14, light transmits its inside, it consists of quartz glass having a high refractive index, for instance, which has been doped with GeO2, and its outside is an outside clad part 16 and for instance, consists of quartz glass having a low refractive index. As for the fiber fixed part 20, each end part of plural optical fibers 26 having constant length is inserted between a round bar-like inside sleeve 22 and a cylindrical outside sleeve 24, and its end face is made to coincide with the end faces of the inside and outside sleeves and is fixed. |
