The invention relates to a method for managing the downloading of a digital content available by progressive downloading onto a content server (3) in a communication network (1, WAN, 10, LAN). The content server is accessible via a service gateway (4,6) of a local network (10) including a first terminal and a second terminal. The method is characterized in that it comprises the following steps: - reception of a request (E32) for progressive downloading of a first digital content (CHB) from the first terminal (TB); - reception of a request (E36) for progressive downloading of a second digital content (CHA) from the second terminal (TA); - obtaining (E33) of rights relating to the terminals (TA, TB) on the downloading device (5, DTTV) comprising at least one item of data regarding priority of the first terminal (PTA) and of the second terminal (PTB), said items of data relating to a priority of use of the downloading device (5, DTTV); - comparing (E33, E36) of the data regarding priority of the first terminal (PTA) with the data item regarding priority of the second terminal (PTB), so as to define the terminal having priority; - downloading of the digital content (CHA) requested by the terminal having priority (PTA).
