The garment, e.g. a blouse, waistcoat or trousers, is padded with a synthetic foam material between its outer fabric and lining. The padding is held in place by seams and can cover the whole of the garment or just sections, e.g. the shoulders and elbows. The foam layer can be of variable thickness and density in different areas of the garment, and positioned to allow a certain freedom of movement.
