Item display method and apparatus that display items according to a user gesture

An item display method and apparatus that provides an easier and faster way to locate a desired item on a display. The method and apparatus receive a user gesture on display screen, and display one or both of items of a first category and items of a second category according to the user gesture. Items of the first category and items of the second category are displayed in various ways according to associated user gestures.

1. A method comprising:
displaying on a display unit an item of a first category comprising a first arrangement of images and a first indicator associated with an ordinal identifier within the first category; detecting, by a processor, a scroll gesture on the displayed item of the first category; and in response to the scroll gesture, transitioning from display of an item of the first category to display of an item of a second category comprising a second arrangement of images and a second indicator associated with an ordinal identifier within the second category, and in which the transitioning occurs without additional selection of the second category when the displayed item is a last item of the first category, and displaying another item of the first category when the displayed item is not the last item of the first category, wherein the first indicator and the second indicator respectively indicate a quantity of items in each category and a position of the displayed item within each respective category.
