1,203,703. Measuring fluid flow. GROVE VALVE & REGULATOR CO. Nov.19, 1968 [Nov.24, 1967], No.54898/68. Heading G1R. In a fluid flow blocking structure in which a sphere B is inserted through a passage 36, normally closed by a hinged door 38 with a pocket 34 of a rotatable ball valve 30 rotatable to the position shown in Fig.1, to release the sphere B into a prover loop 12 provided with detectors 44, 46 and then rotated through 180 degrees to receive the sphere B on travelling round the loop, the arrangement is such that a seat ring 58, surrounding each passageway 24, 26 and slidably mounted in counterbore 56 in each end plate 50, is formed by inner and outer ring members 60, 62, secured together by a snap ring 64, and which define between them a recess for a main resilient seal ring 68, also secured to the inner ring 60 is an enlarged foil portion member 70, slidable in the counterbore 56, and a sealing ring 74 is provided between the ring 60 and a member 70 and a further sealing ring between the counterbore 56 and the member 70. Coil springs 76 are disposed around the plates 50, to hold the rings 58 against the sphere 30, within an enlarged counterbore a retainer ring 78, held in place by screws 79 and provided with sealing rings 80, 82. Fluid pressure introduced from an external source through ducts 89, 90 into an annular space 88 forces the ring portions 70, 78 apart to retract the ring 58 from the valve 30 which may then be rotated and if the fluid pressure source fails springs 76 will return the ring 58 to the sealing position. The seal 68 acts on a diameter D, on the sphere 30, which is between the area formed between the diameters D 3 , of the counterbore 56, and diameter D 2 , of the scale 82.
|
