Thermoplastic multifilament yarn 1 is passed under controlled tension via a brake 3, moistening device 4, spreading rail 9, and internally heated ceramic cylinder 11 (which produces a temperature gradient across the yarn) to variable pressure rolls 12 and 13, roll 12 being internally cooled, and then relaxed. It may then be steam treated. Cylinder 11 may be slowly rotated and axially reciprocated. The moistening agent may be water or an aqueous swelling agent. The yarn may comprise nylon or polyester.</p> |
