The machine structured programming language (APL) has universal application and the conversational aspects render it simple and very quick to write. The execution is speeded up by use of a translator and intermediate language in order to read and analyse the intermediate language by a syntax analyser for execution. The programming language comprises a translator to translate the program into a compact intermediate language. This is the interpreted to enable a syntax analyser to read and analyse the intermediate language whose syllables are coded by the translator into a maximum of two octets. The interpreter utilises a single table of local variables.
