The photographic equipment comprises a horizontal table (1) with a platform for a document, the reflected image of which is viewed by a camera (4) through a horizontal window (6) immediately above the table. Another viewing window (5) on the optical axis of the camera enables a direct photograph to be taken of the person presenting the document. The hinged platform (11) under which the document is placed is connected by a cable (10) passing through the support column (2) with an edge pivoted mirror (8) so that pressure on the platform causes the mirror to intercept the light path used in direct viewing to re-align the system for photographing the document. The equipment is intended for banks so that the presenter of a cheque or identity card may be photographed at practically the same time as the document. The simplicity of the design enables a single camera, of a normal commercially available type, to be used for taking both photographs. the same source of illuminations may be used for both photographs.
