PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct the inclination of an endless belt by a correction means by computing the amount of inclination of the endless belt, based on the detection result. SOLUTION: A first and a second edge sensor 13a and 13b are provided for at places close to a drive roll 2 for running an intermediate transfer belt 1, and close to a steering roll 3 capable of moving the intermediate transfer belt 1 to its width direction (y) respectively, so that the edge position of the intermediate transfer belt 1 is detected by these edge sensors 13a and 13b. In addition, the respective detection signals E1(t) and E2(t) of these sensors 13a and 13b are sent to a controller 25 to let an amount Sk(t) of inclination of the intermediate transfer belt 1 in the belt running direction be computed, and the inclinating action of a second steering roll 19 caused by the result of computation, thereby allowing the inclination of the intermediate transfer belt 1 to be corrected. |
