An anhydrous antiperspirant and/or deodorant composition comprising and antiperspirant or deodorant agent an an oil absorbent material homogeneously dispersed in a vehicle comprising about 25-55% by weight of the total composition of a volatile silicone oil and a gel-forming clay suspending and/or thickening agent in the form of a gel, preferably a bentonite gel, or else a hectorite gel or colloidal magnesium aluminium silicate gel. Additionally preferable ingredients are stability agents to prevent syneresis (oil separation) such as the stearate salts of zinc, aluminium, calcium, magnesium, or lithium stearates. The oil-absorbent material may be talc, starch, clay, microcrystalline cellulose or powdered rice. Suitable volatile silicone oils are cyclic silicones of formula:- -[R2SiO]@ wherein R is C1-4 alkyl and n is 3 to 10, and the unsatisfied valence bonds are united with each other to form a cyclic structure. Antiperspirant agents are conventional astringent Al or Zr compounds. Deodorant agents may be sodium bicarbonate or zinc ricinoleate. The compositions may be in the form of a paste or cream. |
