ORGANIC COMPOUND DECOMPOSING CATALYST AND ORGANIC COMPOUND REMOVING METHOD USING THE CATALYST

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for removing an organic compound such as aldehyde contained in a gas, capable of being reused and suitable for removing a trace quantity of an organic compound. SOLUTION: This catalyst consisting essentially of a cobalt copper compound oxide is prepared by obtaining precipitate containing cobalt and copper from a solution containing a cobalt compound and a copper compound and firing the precipitate. Even a trace quantity of the organic compound in air is removed even at a low temp. of <=100 deg.C by using the catalyst. The performance of the catalyst is further improved by adding a compound to become a component of a reducing agent or a co-catalyst.
