PURPOSE: To rapidly regenerate cold traps by circulating a liquid metal at a temp. sufficient for dissolving hydride and oxide, drawing out the dissolved hydrogen and maintaining the liquid metal at a temp. lower than an oxide crystallization temp. and higher than a hydride crystallization temp. CONSTITUTION: At least one cold traps 4 to be regenerated are arranged in circuits 11 to 13 packed with the liquid metal and a pump 14 for establishing the circulation of the liquid metal passing the traps 4 is disposed therein at the time of regenerating the cold traps loaded with the hydride and oxide of the liquid metal (e.g. Na). The temp. of the liquid metal is regulated to a value sufficient for dissolving the oxide and the hydride by a heater 17. Further, the dissolved hydrogen and lithium are drawn out by a penetrator 33. A dump 20 is provided with the cold trap of the temp. smaller than the oxide crystallization temp. and larger than the hydride crystallization temp. as an oxygen holder 23. Consequently, the rapid generation of the cold traps is made possible.
