PURPOSE:To obtain an oriented thin polyimide film having heat resistance by spreading a film material comprising a specified soluble polyimide over a water surface to prepare a thin film having a molecular orientation. CONSTITUTION:An oriented thin polyimide film 0.003-0.1mum in thickness, formed from a polyimide having a molecular orientation and a dichroic ratio of 1.05 at a specified infrared wavelength, is produced by a technique for continuously forming a film on a water surface, wherein a solution of a soluble polyimide [preferably a polyimide of the formula (wherein R1 is a 2C or higher divalent group, and two amino groups of the diamine component respectively are bonded to the separate C atoms of the divalent group; R2 is a 2C or higher tetravalent group)] is continuously supplied onto a water surface, and a thin film thus obtained is joined with a supporting base material (e.g. plastic film or inorganic crystal) to form a laminate. |
