PURPOSE: To provide a belt capable of easily dewatering a fibrous web in plenty, which comprises an endless loop base fabric having grooves as channels for water squeezed from the fibrous web on the outer surface and both surfaces coated with a liquid-impermeable resin. CONSTITUTION: The belt 26 comprises the endless loop base fabric 22 having the inner surface 20 and the outer surface 19, and a machine-direction yarn 24 running around the loop and a cross-machine direction yarn 26 crossing the loop, which are spun yarns of stable fibers of cotton, wool or the like. The outer surface 19 is provided with land areas 32 and plural grooves 30 used as the channels for water squeezed from the fibrous web 17, and the inner and outer surfaces are coated with the liquid-impermeable polymeric resin. The belt 16 and the fibrous web 17 are passed together through an extended nip press 10 consisting of a cylindrical press roller 12 and an arc-shaped press shoe 14 to dewater the fibrous web 17. |
