PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid electrolyte fuel cell prevented from breakage due to leakage of supplied gas and a breakage preventing method. SOLUTION: This solid electrolyte fuel cell 2 comprises unit cells, separators and spacers in sequential combination. A stack 4 is formed by laminating the plurality of solid electrolyte fuel cells 2, to be tightened by a predetermined pressure. Furthermore, the stack 4 includes heat insulators 10 at the periphery near a supplying passage 52 and a discharging passage 54 for the fuel gas in a predetermined thickness. The heat insulator 10 is made of fibrous ceramic, and has a heat insulating property and an adequate air permeability. That is, the heat insulator 10 fixed to the stack 4 has a property which allows fuel gas leaked from the supplying passage 52 or the like to pass with an adequate air permeable resistance. Consequently, it is possible to avoid such a danger that the leaked gas is burnt in the vicinity of the stack 4. The leaked gas is burnt with air surrounding the stack 4 inside the heat insulator 10, so that heat is hardly transmitted to the stack 4, thereby preventing any breakage. |
