The vehicle frame is manufactured by producing at least two aluminium or aluminium alloy extruded sections (13) each having at least one projecting flange (15). The flanges of each extruded section are placed together and fixed by spot welding (18). Alternatively, the extruded sections can be joined by spot welding to the flanges of an intermediate lug. Preferably the flanges are formed integrally with the extruded sections and or lugs.
