The method involves subjecting a flexible wall (3) of the package (1) to a test pressure. The position of the wall is monitored by at least one sensor (21), and is such that if the wall deforms by a specific amount, this indicates the presence of a leak. The pressure is applied only to the flexible wall of the packing. The pressure can be below atmospheric pressure.
