PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare the subject composition having a specific reductase- inhibiting activity derived from various botanical sources and helpful for the promotion of hair restoration and the prevention of acne by including an extract from a specific plant as an active principle. SOLUTION: This composition is prepared by including an extract from at least one kind of plants selected from the group consisting of Jangkang and Daun trawas (which sometimes are used as folk medicine or crude drug) and these equivalents as an active principle. When the composition is a skin preparation for external use, the formulated amount of the extract is preferably 0.01-10 wt.% as a dry material based on the weight of the composition. The extract is prepared by subjecting to solvent extraction with a solvent such as ethanol proper portions of the above plants in a raw state (or, if needed, in a dried state) as it is (or in a crushed state). The composition has strong inhibiting activity against testosterone 5α-reductase, has an excellent therapeutic effect for pimple and is also excellent in hair growing and restoring effect.
