Fuel cell separator (1) consists of a conducting material (A) and a binder (B). The separator is structured so that after applying 3.5 g of a sample piece cut from the fuel cell separator in 305 ml water and heating the water at 90 deg C for 500 hours, the electrical conductivity of the water is 50 mu S/cm or less. An Independent claim is also included for a polymer electrolyte fuel cell comprising a number of elementary cells each having a pair of electrodes (3) with a polymer electrolyte membrane (2) arranged between them and a pair of separators (1) with gas feed/removal passages (4) and electrodes arranged between them.
