PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for creating a summary dump file from a system crash dump or a core dump file without referring to a large- scale symbol table file. SOLUTION: A crash dump file has a reference part for housing reference to some kind of proper information (for example, a data structure) including reference which is not seen in a conventional crash dump file. It is clear that the data structure consulted in the reference part is optimum for analysis of residence obstacle of the crash dump file. The crash dump file may be a perfect crash dump file of OS, a kernel memory dump, or a crash dump file of an application program. A stand-alone type extraction tool for extracting proper information from the crash dump or the core dump file by utilizing the information in the reference part is also provided, and the tool generates the summary or this mini dump file of the crash dump file. |
