ELECTRICALLY HEATED FIXED-BED REACTOR AND THE USE THEREOF

Fixed-bed reactors exist, which can be directly heated and which are provided for carrying out reactions. They are, however, very inefficient and can hardly be used at high temperatures. The inventive reactor (1) overcomes these drawbacks. The reactor comprises a reactor housing and at least one pair of electrodes (5, 7) having a fixed bed. The fixed bed is made of an electrically conductive material, is arranged between the pair of electrodes, it can be flown through by a fluid, and is suited for a resistance heating. The electrodes (5, 7) are platelike or tubular and are parallel to one another or are concentrically arranged inside one another. A preferred reactor having two tubular electrodes comprises an inner cylindrical chamber (11) as well as a hollow cylindrical chamber (6) that is located between the electrodes. The reactor is suited for carrying out gas reactions such as the production of hydrocyanic acid and the BMA process.
