PURPOSE: A radio and a controlling method thereof are provided to automatically select a local frequency of a broadcasting station from which a user currently listens to a broadcasting signal, and to output the selected frequency, thereby supplying an optimal broadcasting environment. CONSTITUTION: A tuner(11) selects broadcasting signals of set frequencies. A voice signal processor(12) processes the selected broadcasting signals to output the processed broadcasting signals through a speaker(13). A memory(15) stores at least more than two local frequencies for at least more than two broadcasting stations, respectively. A controller(14) searches for local frequencies of one of the broadcasting stations if strength of a received broadcasting signal is less than a reference value, and selects a broadcasting signal whose frequency is more than the reference value.
