An automatic braking method for reducing damage in colliding with a vehicle ahead is provided to minimize loss of a vehicle generated when vehicles collide with each other, by indicating the estimated damage generated in a collision, as the relative speed for the vehicle ahead and controlling the relative speed by setting the damage at the target decrease level. An automatic braking method for reducing damage in colliding with a vehicle ahead comprises the steps of: measuring the distance and relative speed against the vehicle ahead while the vehicle runs, by using a radar; estimating damage estimated in a collision with the vehicle ahead, according to the present relative speed; setting the target relative speed corresponding to the target estimated damage, in order to reduce the estimated damage to the safety collision level; and automatically reducing the vehicle speed by controlling a brake, in order to comply with the target relative speed.
