PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image forming apparatus capable of reducing the number of parts and miniaturization of the apparatus by making a sensor for performing adjustment of image quality by detecting a toner patch image common with a sensor for performing finer adjustment of color according to the color of paper. SOLUTION: A color sensor 15 is installed near a transfer conveying belt 230 forming a transfer conveying path. A reference toner image is formed on the transfer conveying belt 230 in predetermined timing, and the color of the reference toner image is detected by the color sensor 15 to adjust a developing condition. After the paper P is conveyed while the transfer conveying belt 230 is separated from a photoreceptor drum 222, and the color of the paper is detected by the color sensor 15, the transfer conveying belt 230 is brought into contact with the photoreceptor drum 222.
