<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to prevent the occurrence of abnormal sound when driving backward the drive source in the rotation transmitter that can move one gear to the non-gearing position by the operation means of its gear, beside a gear train is rotated forward while engaging one gear constituting a gear train between the adjacent gears. <P>SOLUTION: A solenoid is turned on after completion of the copying work (step S11) and puts one gear constituting the gear train in a non-gearing position (step S12). The foreign material with toner and paper powder deposited between the end edge of a cleaning blade and the image carrier is removed, while the gear train of a drive system for development/fixation is rotated in the reverse direction (step S13) by driving the main motor in reverse rotation preventing the occurrence of the abnormal sound caused by skipping of gear.
