The present invention relates to a control method using a continuous variable valve duration apparatus which can adjust duration of a valve lift according to an operational state of an engine. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the control method using a continuous variable valve duration apparatus provided to adjust opening time of an intake valve of an engine comprises: a step of calculating a lowering amount of an effective compression ratio to prevent a knocking of the engine if the knocking is expected; a step of setting a target effective compression ratio required according to the lowering amount of the effective compression ratio; a step of setting target duration which realizes the set target effective compression ratio; and a step of controlling duration of the intake valve according to the set target duration.
