A safety razor blade comprises two steel blade strips 1 which are secured together with their sharpened edges 11 parallel and closely adjacent to one another by resiliently flexible coupling means 2 which when unstressed hold the blade strips in a common plane but permit them to be displaced angularly relative to one another while parallelism of their sharpened edges is maintained. When the blade is flexed, the blade strips may lie in planes inclined to one another at an angle of about 130 degrees, the width of the gap between the adjacent edges 11 of the blade strips being in the range of 0À015 inch to 0À045 inch e.g. 0À030 inch. In the form shown, the coupling means is in the form of a backing member cut from a resiliently flexible plastics film and formed with two rectangular openings 21 so that the backing member has the form of a frame comprising two side strips 22 joined togeher by three integral transverse strips 23. The blade strips are cemented to the backing frame. Alternatively, the blade strips are secured together by two strips of spring steel extending transversely to the length of the blade strips and welded to the blade strips near the ends thereof and a third spring steel strip may be arranged at the centre of the length of the blade strips. When only two coupling strips are provided at the ends of the cutting edges they may be disposed on that side of the blade strips which is presented to the face in shaving. In another modification, one blade strip may be replaced by an unsharpened guard strip and the coupling strips formed integrally with the guard strip. |
