PURPOSE:To obtain a wire with superior drawability and superior copper plate adhesion by annealing a steel wire rod contg. C, Si, Mn and Ti in a specified atmosphere before drawing so as to inhibit oxidation on grain boundaries in the surface layer of the wire rod. CONSTITUTION:A steel wire rod contg., by weight, <=0.1% C, 0.4-1.5% Si, 0.8- 2.5% Mn and 0.05-0.3% Ti is annealed in an atmosphere having <=-25 deg.C dew point and contg. >=99% gaseous N2. Though Si, Mn and Ti which are more easily oxidizable than Fe and present mainly on grain boundaries are contained in the wire rod, the formation of a layer of the oxides of Si, Mn and Ti on grain boundaries is almost all prevented by the annealing. As a result, problems such as defective drawing and defective copper plating can be solved. |
