PURPOSE:To control a nonimage part in a high response speed by applying a developer stopping voltage to an electrode, which is arranged to face a developer holding member, to stop applying a nonmagnetic developer. CONSTITUTION:When a negative polarity voltage (developer applying voltage) to a developer member 12 is applied from a power source 19 to an electrode 18, a nonmagnetic developer 22 charged electrostatically with the negative polarity by friction to magnetic particles or the developer holding member is pulled toward the surface of the developer holding member 12 and is stuck there. Meanwhile, when a positive polarity voltage (developer stopping voltage) to the developer holding member 12 is applied to the electrode 18, the nonmagnetic developer charged with the negative polarity is pulled toward the electrode 18 by an electrostatic force and is not applied onto the developer holding member 12. The developer applying voltage (negative polarity) or the developer stopping voltage (positive polarity) is applied selectively from the power source 19 to the electrode 18 in this manner to apply the nonmagnetic developer 22 onto the developer holding member selectively. If this developing method is applied and plural developing devices having different color developers are used, multicolor recording is performed with one transfer.
