PURPOSE:To correct the curve of an image surface and the aberration of distortion up to a practically allowable level by specifying the relation of the radius of an inscribed circle of a polygon mirror, the radius of curvature of a reflecting surface, a distance from a deflecting point to a scanning surface, and an effective scanning width. CONSTITUTION:To correct the deterioration of the aberration of distortion, i.e. uniformity of a scanning speed, a method for changing the clock of a signal output in accordance with the change of the scanning speed is used as an example and the method is practically used for a deflecting system using a galvanomirror. However, this electric correction is also limited and its variation range is preferably 15% or less. To maintain the variation of the scanning speed within 15%, the relation of the radius A of the inscribed circle of the poligon mirror 4, the radius R of curvature of the reflecting surface, the distance L0 from the deflecting point to the scanning surface, and the effective scanning width l0 should satisfy the conditions of the shown formula.
