The smoke or flame damper is mounted in the opening of a conduit etc, and comprises a stop screen mounted in a housing. This comprises slats coupled together to move between the open and shut positions and held in the former by a fusible link. - Each slat comprises an oblong plate with the lengthwise edges rolled inwards so as to engage with and hinge on the next ones. The locking device securing the screen in the unfolded shut position comprises notches engaging with the bottom edge of the lowermost slat.
