The invention relates to a piercer for a gas cartridge. In order to prevent jamming of the piercer with the gas cartridge when the latter is penetrated by a base part of the piercer and to prevent an outflow channel of the piercer from being closed during the piercing operation it is proposed, according to the invention, that the basic body of the piercer be designed so as to taper from the region of a section arranged at its front end towards its clamping region. <IMAGE>
