PURPOSE:To record uniform and clear high-density images, by providing an undercoat layer of a film-forming high molecular weight compound and a thermal color forming layer comprising a leuco dye and a color developer, on a heat-insulating base having minute void parts. CONSTITUTION:A foamable plastic filler is applied to a base such as a paper and a plastic film together with a binder, followed by drying. Then, the coated surface is heated to foam the plastic filler, thereby producing a heat-insulating base having minute void parts. Next, an undercoat layer comprising a film- forming high molecular weight compound as a main constituent and a thermal color forming layer comprising a leuco dye and a color developer as main constituents are sequentially provided on the heat-insulating base in a laminate form, thereby producing a thermal recording material. The plastic filler consists of hollow plastic filler particles having shells formed of a thermoplastic substance and containing a low boiling point solvent therein, and is foamed when being heated. |
