PURPOSE: To provide an improved multicolor ink jet printer which prints bidirectionally. CONSTITUTION: The color description of RGB color cordinates is converted to device depending color description by an RGB-CMYK converter 100 forming colorant signals defined by colorants of cyan, magenta, yellow and black and a part of an image is stored in a swath buffer 102 storing the scanning line corresponding to the swath of the image printed at the time of reciprocating passage of a print head traversing a sheet and a UCR 104 removes an undercolor and, in black addition 106, the corresponding quantity of undercolor removal is added to the colorant signals by a black signal K. A forward swath processor 108 and a backward swatch processor 110 processing image data to the head driver 120 driving the print head during corresponding passage are provided and the output of the backward processor 110 is the input to the forward processor 108. |
