PURPOSE:To prepare a self-emulsifiable polyisocyanate mixture improved in compatibility, dispersion stability and stability of NCO group, and the subject composition useful for a coating material improved in heat resistance, workability, visual appearance of a coating film, weather resistance and adhesion to base, and an adhesive excellent in adhesive strength. CONSTITUTION:This self-emulsifiable polyisocyanurate mixture is produced by conducting a urethane modification reaction, a urethodionation reaction and an isocyanuration reaction of hexamethylene diisocyanate with a 4 to 35C divalent alcohol having a 2 to 33C branched chain, a hydrophilic surfactant having an NCO-reactive active hydrogen group and 3 to 90 alkylene oxide units, a >=8C aliphatic compound having an NCO-reactive active hydrogen group and a glycol having a 1 to 10C nonbranced chain. The obtained self- emulsified polyisocyanurate mixture has <=1.0wt.% monomer content and 2.0 to 3.7 average number of functional groups. From this mixture and a water-soluble resin and/or an aqueous emulsion or water and, if necessary, an additive, a coating material or an adhesive can be prepared.
