PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium with which recording by both recording systems of reloadable magneto-optical recording and DRAW type optical recording is possible. SOLUTION: An garnet film formed on a substrate by using a target having contg. the bismuth(Bi) at a value from 15at.% to 45at.% in the compsn. ratio of bismuth(Bi) at the time of removing oxygen(O) and a rare earth element, gallium(Ga), iron(Fe) and oxygen(O) or an amorphous film formed on the substrate by using a target contg. the bismuth(Bi) at 15at.% to 70at.% in the compsn. ratio of the bismuth(Bi) at the time of removing the oxygen(O) and the rare earth element, the gallium(Ga), the iron(Fe) and the oxygen(O) is used as the recording layer 3 of the optical recording medium which enables the recording of both systems of the reloadable magneto-optical recording and the DRAW type optical recording.
