The cutter bit (10) has chip clearing faces (11,12) at either side and faces with which it is mounted on a tool holder. The chip clearing or chip forming sections have a positive angle. The cutting edges (14) lie above the faces on which the bit is mounted on the tool holder. The cutting edges, which lie between the corners have upwardly protruding sections (15,19,20) the tips of which lie in one plane.
