PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coder for stereo scopic moving image that detects a motion vector with high accuracy regardless of a small circuit scale. SOLUTION: As shown in Figure (a), a corresponding MB 2 of a left-sequence is decided based on a parallax vector of a coding object MB 1 of frame Bi of a right-sequence, and a motion vector (2) of the corresponding MB 2 is used for a start point of a range of search to search a motion vector of the coding object MB 1. Or as shown in Figure (b), a motion vector (3) of an MB 3 adjacent to the coding object MB 1 is used for the start point of a range of search to search a motion vector of the coding object MB 1. Otherwise a motion vector having a higher usefulness evaluation in the motion vectors (2) and (3) is selected for a motion vector for the start point above. Thus, the range of search is reduced and the circuit scale to detect the motion vector is made small. |
