PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an induced electromotive voltage which is generated during the free running of a permanent-magnet field synchronous motor from affecting the DC input side of an inverter for driving and controlling the motor, when the motor is used as a railway synchronous motor. SOLUTION: A power converter is provided with a filter capacitor 3, which is charged with a DC voltage inputted from an overhead line through a pantograph 6, an inverter 2A which supplies the DC voltage charged in the capacitor 3 to a permanent-magnet field synchronous motor 7 for driving a railway car after the DC voltage is converted into AC power, and a blocking means which prevents an induced electromotive voltage generated during the free running of the motor 7 from affecting the DC input side of the inverter 2A. |
