Production of beta -1,6-branched beta -1,3-glucan (I) comprises: (1) producing a mycelium of Schizophyllum commune; (2) (b) culturing the mycelium in a liquid medium having a pH of 4-8.5 and containing 1-10 wt.% glucose, 0.1-1 wt.% yeast extract, 0.05-0.5 wt.% diammonium phosphate ((NH4)2HPO4) or ammonium sulfate ((NH4)2SO4), 0.05-0.5 wt.% monopotassium phosphate (KH2PO4) and 0.005-0.2 wt.% magnesium sulfate (MgSO4.7H2O); (3) (c) isolating (I) from the medium; and (4) (d) purifying (I).
